Biography

Yoomia Sim is an internationally recognised New Zealand violinist. A luxury events performer with over 16 years of industry experience. Her professional career has taken her across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the UK and Australasia. In 2019 – 2020 season alone, the violin has taken Yoomia to Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, New Caledonia, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russia, French Polynesia, China, USA and Korea.

Since 2011, an interest in modern music styles coupled with a desire to write her own music has seen her shift away from her classical roots, performing as Yoomia the Modern Violinist, with fresh electronic, latin, gypsy inspired original tunes on her electric violin.

Yoomia is a passionate music educator, dedicated to nurturing and mentoring the future generation of New Zealand’s musicians. She has been a devoted violin teacher and music mentor since 2000, teaching violin, piano and music theory. In 2021, she is looking forward to her seventh year teaching as a lecturer  and a course co-ordinator at the University of Canterbury.
