Biography

Rebekka Hartmann began playing the violin at the age of five with Suzuki teacher Helge Thelen. She studied in Munich with Prof. Andreas Reiner and later in Los Angeles with Prof. Alice Schoenfeld, receiving further artistic inspiration from masterclasses with Rainer Kussmaul and
Josef Kröner.

A prizewinner at numerous international competitions, Hartmann gained early acclaim with distinctions such as the International Henri Marteau Violin Competition (2005), the “Pacem in Terris” International Music Competition in Bayreuth (2004), and the prestigious Jascha Heifetz
Scholarship (USA, 2002). Her international concert career has led to collaborations with renowned conductors including Christoph Eschenbach, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Enoch zu Guttenberg, and Kent Nagano. She has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, appearing at major festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Hohenloher Kultursommer, and
Weilburger Schlosskonzerte.

Hartmann’s repertoire spans from early Baroque to contemporary music, reflected in her extensive discography. Her acclaimed recording Birth of The Violin (Solo Musica, 2011) received the ECHO Klassik Award in 2012 for “Best Solo Recording of the Year.” Other notable releases include Views from Ararat (2015, Farao Classics), Paul Juon: Complete Works for Two Violins and Piano (2015, Musiques Suisses), and Violin Concertos by Tartini, Haydn & Mendelssohn (2018, Solo Musica), which was nominated for the 2019 ICMA.

Her 2025 album with Farao Classics features works by K.A. Hartmann and Maurice Ravel, along with the world premiere of Aziza Sadikova’s Violin Concerto “Stradivari”, recorded with the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra under Kent Nagano. Rebekka Hartmann performs on a 1675 Antonio Stradivari violin, known as the “Hartmann Stradivari.”
