A distinguished Thai pianist and educator, he previously served as Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer for the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance at Sunway University’s School of Arts until May 2025.

From 2021 to 2023, he held the role of Assistant Professor at University College Fairview Malaysia. In 2024, he was honored with the Student Appreciation of Teaching Award for Undergraduate Programmes at Sunway University. Recognized as one of Southeast Asia's leading pianists, Poom was awarded Best Solo Performance (Instrumental-Music) at the 2023 BOH Cameronian Arts Awards and was named to the Rector's List of Honour for outstanding graduates at the University of Montreal's Doctor of Music Programme in 2022. He holds degrees from the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, where he was awarded the prestigious Tagore Gold Medal by King Charles III, and he also studied
at the Moscow Conservatory.

Poom's international career was launched after winning the Gold Medal at the Fifth Isidor Bajić International Piano Competition in 2010. Since then, he has performed with major orchestras worldwide, including the Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra, Worthing Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and Timișoara Philharmonic Orchestra. A dedicated champion of Carl Vine's music, Poom was personally commissioned by the Australian composer to premiere Three Fantasies, a project supported by United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB), at the University of Hong Kong. His interpretation of Vine's Piano Sonata No. 1 was hailed by the composer himself: "Poom Prommachart brings a unique passion and intensity to the work...finding quite original levels of depth within it. His technical mastery is formidable, achieving remarkable speed and accuracy through the most complex passages, yet also finding a sonorous serenity in the more lyrical moments. This performance is a very welcome addition to the history of this sonata."

Poom has recently given masterclasses and research presentations at prestigious institutions including the Kazakhstan National Conservatory of Music, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore), Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the University of Hong Kong. He is an Elite Fellow at the University of Malaya and was recently invited as the first Asian piano professor of the European Piano Teachers Association Denmark, where he will join the faculty for the 22nd International Piano Week in 2025.
