Biography

Praised for the liveliness and sensitivity of his interpretations, French violinist Boris Borgolotto has been described by Menahem Pressler as “the best playing today.” An internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, Paris Philharmonic, Salle Pleyel, Walt Disney Hall, Taiwan National Concert Hall, Beijing NCPA, Shanghai City Theater, and Seoul Arts Center.


Boris has collaborated with artists including Vadim Repin, Kyung-Wha Chung, Edgar Moreau, Kim Kashkashian, and Ivry Gitlis, and performed under conductors such as Ton Koopman, Myung-Whun Chung, Stéphane Denève, and Joe Hisaishi. A founding member of the internationally acclaimed Zadig Trio, he has won 11 international prizes across Europe and the U.S., and the trio’s albums—Something in Between, The Seasons, and Orpheus—have received critical acclaim and widespread broadcasts on France Musique, Mezzo, Medici.tv, and Brava.

He recently recorded César Franck’s Violin Sonata and Ernest Chausson’s Concerto in Prague with pianist Théo Fouchenneret and the Arod Quartet, broadcast on Mezzo TV, Amazon Prime Video, Canal+, and Qwest TV. 

 

A dedicated educator, Boris serves as Guest Professor at the Xi’an Conservatory and Head of Strings at the Tsinghua Academy of Music, Beijing. He regularly gives masterclasses and serves on international competition juries, with students winning numerous awards and performing internationally. Boris studied at the Paris National Conservatory (CNSMDP), University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Reina Sofía School of Music, and Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under Dora Schwarzberg and Günter Pichler. Early in his career, he won the IBLA Foundation and American Fine Arts Competition, debuting at Carnegie Hall, and received mentorship from Menahem Pressler and Alfred Brendel. He performs on a Cremonese violin by Bergonzi.
